Abstrak

This article recounts the author's experience of participating in The Speech Competition of The Office Explorer (TOE) 7.0 organized by Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Using the analogy of riding a roller coaster, the author illustrates how fear, uncertainty, and excitement are inseparable parts of competing. Although equipped with strong English communication skills, the author still experienced nervousness, self-doubt, and anxiety throughout the preparation and competition process. With guidance and encouragement from lecturers, the author prepared a speech on The Importance of Business Correspondence, combining informative content with engaging delivery. Through intensive practice, perseverance, and the courage to step outside the comfort zone, the author successfully delivered the speech and was awarded Second Place. This experience demonstrates that competitions are not solely about winning but also about developing confidence, resilience, communication skills, and personal growth. The story encourages Generation Z to embrace challenges, overcome fear, and view every competition as an opportunity to learn and achieve their fullest potential.
